LONDON鈥擨f we're honest, removing a wheel from your car might not be the quickest or safest route to sports-car Shangri-La.
But 100 years ago, that's exactly what the Rev Morgan did to create the iconic three-wheeled Morgan鈥攐ne of the giant-killers of sport motoring.
While the classic Morgan Aero will be at the center of the celebrations of Morgan's centenary celebrations at this August, the spirit of Morgan is still inspiring men to make their own interpretation of the sporting three wheeler.
We've test-driven two of them; the from Seattle, Wash.
So have these trikes proven that less is indeed more?
Let's take a ride.
Black Jack Zero Why build three-wheelers?
The Beetle gearbox works in reverse, but the final drive just blots in on the other side of the casing and the VW Rabbit half-shafts simply bolt on to the drive flanges.
The GTI front uprights mount at the wheel end.
The engine sits in an elegant and strong tubular structure divided by laser-cut bulkheads.
The two-seat body shell is a self-supporting fiberglass tub with twin 2-inch steel tubes blackjack motors beneath, onto which the front and rear subframes bolt.
The lightweight fiberglass panels attach with quick-release Dzus fasteners.
There's a lot of motorcycle inspiration too, from that blood-red coachwork, the upswept single side exhaust and even the Ducati typeface used for the logos on the side of the car.

The cockpit is welcoming and the seats adjust forward and back.

The tach and speedometer and the instruments for oil pressure, temperature and fuel contents sit in front of the driver.
The Drive The air-cooled 75-hp Moto Guzzi engine biffs to life and settles to an uneven idle.
The tiny polished metal gear-lever gate is an entrancing touch, but nothing can disguise the parentage of the gearbox, which engages first with a rubbery reluctance familiar to anyone who knows old Beetles.
The clutch is light with a clean bite and the Guzzi engine quickly clatters off down the road.
Rev it past 3000 rpm and the engine click at this page its origins as an Italian Army runabout and becomes a thudding performer proud of its 1980s superbike roots.
At 990 pounds, the Zero is certainly light.
And it's fast, topping 100 mph and reaching 60 mph in 6 seconds.
It rides comfortably, but with little body roll, which is kept in check with a big front anti-roll bar.
There's very little reversed torque reaction to lifting off the throttle or braking, but the steering rack ratio could be a little faster to correct a slide if it happens.
The Bottom Line It was chilly on our drive, but you wear the clothes to suit the vehicle.
And the Zero is more like a high quality motorbike than it is a car.
It also draws an audience like nothing else.

Liberty Motors Ace Seattle, home to Boeing, Microsoft and Amazon is more normally associated with planes, software and irritating sitcom radio psychologists than it is with small cars harking back to the earliest days of motoring.
This three-wheeler comes from Seattle's only carmaker, Liberty Motors, run by owner Pete Larsen.
The Specs Larsen chose a proven powerplant for the Ace鈥擧arley-Davidson's V-twin engine.
It's a clever unit, with its own internal flywheels and balance shafts, but it blackjack motors emits hardcore vibrations and has an almost insurmountable flaw.
This engine must be turned through 90 degrees from its usual longitudinal home.
In a bike, the engine turns a primary-drive sprocket so the stubby end of the crank is not even machined to take a conventional flywheel.

The engine is the classic 45-degree V-twin Harley-Davidson, in twin-cam B-motor form, available in 72-hp 88-cubic-inch 1450-cc or 98-hp 103-cubic-inch 1690-cc sizes.
The steering rack is from a Ford Mustang with shorter tie rods, the front wheels come from a Harley custom specialist and the rear wheel is from the Honda Goldwing fitted with a car tire.
The body is made of four fiberglass moldings and its detailing is immaculate, from the chrome-plate faux radiator housing with its Flying A mascot, to the engine-turned-dashboard and beautifully arranged electrics behind the fascia.
The cockpit is wide, but short and over-six-footers might find their legs slightly cramped.
There's no shortage of shoulder room, and the driving position, although intimate, is good, once you've learned to hook your elbow over the cockpit side and hold the four-spoke steering wheel gently.
The Drive The engine has the lumpy, offbeat "potato-potato" beat of any classic Harley.
The gear lever is rifle precise, with short movements, and the motorsport pedal box is equally blackjack motors />You sit high in the Ace, with a view over the hood and down onto the stubby wheels.
Engage first, lift the short-travel clutch, and the 970-pound Ace lifts its tail with the torque effect; the engine gives voice: "dakka-dakka, crash-bang wallop".

Fifth gear is largely useless as the engine revs drop below 1500 rpm, where you can feel the engine's vibrations in your bones.
The Bottom Line To be sure, the Ace needs some fettling.
Those vibrations need more smoothing, but Larsen's secret transmission seems to work well.
It also desperately needs a handbrake.
We'd add a smaller steering wheel too, but as Blackjack motors says: "Okay, it's a Walter Mitty thing, but how many of today's vehicles offer such a feeling?
