I will update this list for more questions that I'd like to ask fellow commanders.
I just got a number of soldiers with good abilities, but the choice is tricky, for me, anyways.
The main thing is that they're both fine abilities, but it's still early in the game.
What's the better choice?
Support: Will to Survive vs.
HEAT Ammo Corporal, April : Take HEAT Ammo Sniper, Snapshot: Gunslinger vs.
Opportunist Sergeant, April : Take Opportunist Sniper, Snapshot: Disabling Shot vs.

Personally, I'd take Will to Survive for that point in the game.
Heat would be good for the future, but he may not even survive to see mechanical enemies besides seekers if he doesn't take WtoS.
I'd be inclined to heat ammo, if I knew what was to become of his other abilies.
If he were to luck out and get holo-targetting and suppression for instance, he xcom training roulette take over for a heavy that was mostly rockets and grenades for example.
My advice for now, is to level him up slowly, unlock those abilities, but postpone selecting too many.
I think the game will allow you to level someone up to the next rank without making a choice on those but double check that.
Maybe he lucks out too and gets covering fire or sentinel somewhere in the mix.
Alternatively, if you don't feel like investing so much time unlocking and training up soldiers and their abilities, there is a mod on nexus mods that can cut down on a lot of wasted time.
The one I use unlocks abilites at squaddie, so you see what they'll be before you invest too xcom training roulette effort.
After going through the game and beating it 3 or 4 times, its a welcome change on future playthroughs.
HEAT ammo on anyone should be taken most of the time.
WtS is not that important.
So I have another dilemma.
I have see more Snapshot Sniper because I'm going for Army of 4, but his Sergeant choice is tricky.
He has Gunslinger and Opportunist.
I know most will probably take Opportunist, but I want the opinion, because the Sniper Rifle can get inaccurate, and I may need a backup weapon for those close combat situations.

Gunslinger I usually ignore with the exception of a couple of covert ops candidates if they've also got low profile and mimetic together.
I should be clearer, I do this for snipers.
If its an assault, those three plus whatever else it can bring to the table operative wise is also something I do.
I generally aim for 1 or 2 backups who can do the same job.
Opportunist I find valuable most of the time, espeically if its not a sniper and this is training roulette we're still talking about here.
Some of these types of skills sometimes wind up at Major rank which is ok too I find if I've already got a few good abilities going for me anyway by that point.
On the gunslinger thing.
Depends if you plan on doubletap or ITZ maybe.
If ITZ i would go with gunslinger case you run out of bullets on the main gun xcom training roulette you are procting.
Then xcom training roulette i read somewhere on forums that improved pistol still broke: Bummer.
Anywho, just an idea.
BTW i'm having fun with training roulette finally: Should of used it more in the past since it breaks the monatony.
Only thing is i'm finding out it can be a MAJOR dissapointment.
It's like yippeee uber, uber, uber skill then bam, promoted to Major and welcome to revive!!!!
Also getting stuck with close combat spec.
It's all good though, overall i'm happy: Fun to play with different setups.
The current situation is that I already have a Gunslinger Assault.
Also, I go DT rather than ITZ, since I find DT more reliable.
DT is a good choice, can't really go wrong.
I used it 100% of the time til i saw Mals vids.
roulette pairs quickly mastered ITZ and i stole alot of his tactics hehe.
It can be pretty usefull and fun.

The only thing I could have wanted more on her would be sprinter instead of gunslinger.
Aggression damn near meant she crit 100% of the time, but Bring Em On would have been nice, too.
Gunslinger I don't care about anymore unless my assault covert has it.
Since I've beaten this game in so many ways, I've been toying around with mods and doing some AI tests.
If you want to see what a TR soldier is going to get skill-wise, you can see with the Rig the Roulette mod once the soldiers achieve squaddie rank.
It prevents those disappointing times where you draw revive or some other bs major skill and it can help you plan ahead what type of soldier you want them to be.
You don't set the skills, you just see what they are going to get later.
Maybe not for everyone, but it's fun to plan ahead.

Extra conditioning I sometimes pick, if I've gtot other promising things with the soldier already.
Bummer is, they sometimes place it at Corporal rank so you can't see the other abilities yet to know if it was good.
Again, I highly recommend that mod on nexus mods : Anyhoo, my vote between just those two would be disabling shot 9 times out of 10.
Even if the sniper was being used aggressively and always out in front I tend to pick that one.
